Weight loss troubleshooting at FILEX 2010
This autumn I'll be presenting a seminar at FILEX (April 30 to May 2, Sydney Convention Center). Attracting over 2,000 people who either work in the fitness industry or are interested in learning more about fitness for their own health and well-being, I'm looking forward to busting a few myths about weight management and exercise.People often assume that when they start exercising more they'll start losing excess weight. That is not always the case. A common explanation is that 'muscle weighs more than fat'. However, there are several other physical reasons why you may not be losing weight despite increased exercise.
In my troubleshooting session based on insights from medical research I'm going to cover:
- To what extent can 'muscle weighs more than fat' be used as an explanation for lack of weight loss?
- How to know if reduced metabolic rate is contributing to your lack of weight loss, and what to do if so
- The acid test to show you if excessive kilojoule intake is causing your lack of weight loss
- How to know if your can't lose weight because you've reached the lowest weight you're genetically programmed to be
- Medical conditions and medications that that can make it particularly difficult to lose weight
- Common situations and medical conditions that cannot be blamed for lack of weight loss
What our readers say...
"Hi Amanda, just a quick note to let you know that I lost exactly 2 kgs after one month. Much to my astonishment because I haven't been 'really' trying. As I only have 4 more to go, I know that it's going to take a while and I don't expect to lose that much next month, however it did give me a real sense of achievement and a spring in my step. Many thanks for all the tips, I completely love being able to eat my usual diet and just listen to my body. The silly season is upon us, so probably a few more glasses of bubbles than usual but that's half the fun of it right! Kind regards, A.A. P.S. my 'sometimes doubting' husband also lost 1.5kgs! "
