Sydney Weight Loss Workshop for Men

This month I'm thrilled to have teamed up with my colleague Dr Miguel Iglesias to bring you Dr Iglesias' Weight Loss Workshop for Men.

During his PhD at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and subsequent research at the University of Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France, and the University of New South Wales, Dr Iglesias made seminal discoveries on the influence of diet and exercise on the body's ability to respond to insulin and metabolize glucose. Dr Iglesias' research has been published in the highest-ranking international scientific journals in metabolism, notably Cell Metabolism, the Journal of Clinical Investigation and Diabetes.

The beauty of Dr Iglesias' workshop is that he not only has the scientific training to present rigorously researched information that will make a difference to men who want to lose weight and keep it off, he also knows from personal experience what it's like to fight and win the Battle of the Bulge. Here's what Dr Iglesias says.

'Like many people, I struggled with excess weight for many years. However I was twice as frustrated as regular dieters. First, because I tried lots of diets and regimes that ceased working once I'd lost a few kilos. Second, because almost all weight loss strategies are designed for women.

After yo-yo dieting from the age of 14, I discovered The Don't Go Hungry Diet by my colleague Dr Amanda Sainsbury-Salis and it changed my life. Since that day I have lost 14 kilos that will never come back.

So that is one frustration gone. But what about the second one? Do men and women regulate body weight in a similar manner? From my research into weight regulation and my personal experiences, men gain and lose weight differently to women.
  • We put on weight in different areas of the body
  • We put on weight for different reasons
  • The sources of stress and our reactions to it are different
  • We have different motivations for losing weight
  • We respond to exercise in a different way
With all these differences, it's no wonder that many men have difficulties following weight loss programs that were designed for women!

If you're a man who wants to lose weight as a man, come to my workshop and I'll show you how to do it without ordering skim lattes, small meals or salads with light dressing.

If you're a woman and you want to help a man you care about to be lean and healthy, come to my workshop and I'll show you how to do it, backed by insights from scientific research.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you.'

What our readers say...

"Hi Amanda! I was so excited to receive your reply to my e-mail! I will definitely let you know what my set point weight ends up being. So far this is a very amazing and eye opening journey. I over indulged the day I bought and started reading your book, Don't Go Hungry For Life, but since deciding to follow your plan and starting my Success Diary I have not even been hungry! Usually I was eating 6 small meals a day regardless of whether I was hungry or not (a habit that was drilled into me when I was becoming a personal trainer), so it's great to know that my Fat Brake is actually working and is compensating for this past excess of food! My first meeting with anorexia was at the age of 10, and the last 10 years of my life (I'm now 20) have been a battle with bulimia. This is the first time in 10 years I feel completely in control! And it's only been a week, but my whole state of mind is so different now! And it's just in time, because my eating patterns/disorders were putting a huge strain on my marriage. My husband is so happy to see me being able to enjoy food and not end up binging/purging or starving myself for days afterward. I was particularly interested in the chapter in your book referring to hormones and the Famine Reaction, as we have been trying for a baby for 13 months with no luck. My menstruation stopped about 14 months ago, which I have been told by specialists is due to excessive exercise. I cut my exercise in half, but still no luck as my estrogen level is so far below where it is meant to be. So I am hoping that this new eating style can help balance my hormones as well as my moods. Again, thank you so much, your new book has not only helped me to escape from diet dungeon and face my demons, it is also helping my marriage. For the first time in 10 years, I feel like a normal person! I will update you when my weight balances its self out and will let you know how I go! Thanks."
