New Connect Over Coffee Coaching Program
This month I'm thrilled to launch my new Connect Over Coffee Coaching Program.
After I wrote The Don't Go Hungry Diet, women e-mailed me to say how excited they were by the idea of losing weight by connecting with their body, but they were unsure where to start. Much as they were exhausted by conventional dieting, the idea of letting go of restrictive methods of weight management was confronting and scary.
If you'd like to lose weight by connecting with your body but don't feel confident about going it alone, now you can enlist the support of a weight loss coach in your neighbourhood; someone who's personally lost weight by connecting with their body, and someone who's been personally trained by me.
Every two to four weeks you meet with your Connect Over Coffee Coach in a cafe convenient to you and your coach. She will take your through the specific things you need to do to lose weight and keep it off, tailored to your particular circumstances.
Your Connect Over Coffee Coach will:
- Ensure you're reading your body signals accurately so that you can lose weight and keep it off by eating in the way your body tells you to.
- Show you how to adapt your weight loss strategy to fit your lifestyle.
- Cut through the 'shoulds' and 'shouldn'ts' about eating so that you can lose weight while enjoying normal foods with your family and friends.

Over to you
Here's something you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.
One of the things that really helps people to drive their weight down and keep it down is to find ways of adding a few additional exercise sessions to their week.
If you're not already getting an average of 12,000 steps per day, what are three things you could do this week to add more activity to your life?
During the week, I don't get any exercise other than commuting and walking to school, daycare, and rushing around the lab. However, on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, I love to take my children to the pool where I can get a great workout by water walking and carrying both of them on my back. It does wonders to keep my favourite jeans fitting comfortably.
Nelly, who has lost several dress sizes since doing one of my workshops late last year, found that the last time she went to the coast to look after her elderly father, she was able to kick her weight down to the next level by doing long vigorous beach walks each day and a few bike rides during the week.
Felicity found that she didn't lose any weight while following The Don't Go Hungry Diet until - in addition the moderate amount of incidental activity she was getting - she started going for two vigorous 90 minute walks each week with her mother's group. Once she upped her exercise in this way, she lost 3 kilos in 6 weeks.
I encourage you to choose three ways to get some vigorous activity this week and do them. Whether it's joining a gym, powering up hills when you go for your walk, or going for a swim. If you're certain not to eat any more than you need, then your increased activity will be rewarded with that wonderful leaner feeling that will motivate you to keep going.
If you'd like help to ensure you're reading your body signals correctly, be sure to sign up for one of my up-coming Spring workshops (my last workshops for a while), or click here to enlist Lorraine Oro's expert help in my new Connect Over Coffee Coaching Program.
Have a great month, and see you again in October.
Sincerely,
Amanda

What the experts say...
"Dear Amanda, I just wanted to write you an email to thank you for changing my life in such an important way. I was an overweight child and obese as a young adult consequently most of my life has been about battling with my weight. After losing weight with a popular weigh loss group when I was 19 I thought I had solved the problem but I was wrong. Post weight loss I could no longer lead a normal life if I wanted to stay thin. I would breakdown in tears every time I had to go out for dinner because I knew it would result in more weight gain and I began to exercise obsessively and get furious if anything interfered with my grueling regime. This abnormal behavior did not help my weight problem though and after a year of gradual gain I began cycles of starving myself, which would inevitably be followed by a binge. This went on for two years with me trying to hide my problem from people. Within 4 years I had gained 8 of the 20 kilos I had originally lost. A year ago I read your book and at first I thought it must be too good to be true because the only way I had ever known weight loss to happen was through starvation and suffering. Six months later however I decided I had nothing to lose by giving it ago. The change has been gradual. Firstly I threw out my scales then I started drinking full cream milk (something I have longed to do since I was 12 years old when I was first forced to swap to skim milk because of my weight problem). After this I worked on being able to gauge when I was full (I never had a problem gauging hunger). This took a long time because I was so used to eating carefully weighed portions. In six short months, though, the binging has stopped, I no longer have a breakdown at the thought of going out to dinner and I have already lost 4 kilos. So thank you Amanda, your wise words have given me the courage to change for good and now I know I will never have to be fat again."
