How can I help my child to stay (or become) lean and healthy?
When children eat mostly whole foods with plenty of vegetables and fruit
and do regular physical activity, they naturally gravitate towards a
healthy body weight and stay that way. The single most effective way to
help your child to eat well is to eat well yourself. If most of the foods
you eat at home are nutrient-rich, minimally processed foods, your child
will automatically eat that way, too. Try to find active pursuits that you
and your child can enjoy together. This will help both of you
attain and maintain a healthy weight.
What the experts say...
"Dr Amanda Sainsbury-Salis brings a touch of reality as well as a good healthy dose of scientific understanding to her approach to weight control. Not only is Amanda amongst the best scientists in the world in obesity research, but she has been through the problem herself and found that the standard recommendations don't necessarily work - particularly for women, who are much more complicated creatures than men. You'll find this a refreshing approach in an often very tired old field. I thoroughly recommend it."
- Professor Garry Egger, developer of Gutbusters
